My letter to the Vice-PM of Australia and Minister of Education, Julia Gillard

Madam the Vice-Prime-Minister and Minister of Education Gillard,

I'm 25 years old and I'm of French citizenship. I really appreciate the Australian culture and I support your action for the Government of the Commonwealth, as I'm a member and activist in the Parti Socialiste (the equivalent of Labor) and Jeunesses Socialistes (Youth movement).

I would like to write you about the teaching of Kriol, Torres Creole and Cocos Malay and I have written yet to Mr Prime-Minister Rudd for the asking to recognise these three autochtonous languages of Australia as official with the English language, inside the Constitution.

These two languages are the most widely languages through the Aboriginal and the Papu of Australian. Concerning Cocos Malay , it deals with the mother language in the Cocos archipelago.

My missive sets the ask, equally, of a bilingual teaching for the both Creoles to be instituted for the Creole speakers (and possibly to other Aboriginal speakers communities, if they ask it),

as it is proved that the level of literacy inside the Aboriginal communities is too much low, for a developed country such as Australian Commonwealth.

Creoles are not "bad English" but true and independent languages, to promote them would just be a sign of diversity throughout Australia.

I think even that every Australian pupil should learn for two years (before high school, for 2h in the week time table) one of three autochtonous languages in the goal of discovering the culture of its country through the first peoples of Australia and being aware that every language has worth.

Sincerly yours, Madam the Vice-Minister Gillard
